FamilyWize Collaborates with Walgreens to Help Distribute Thousands of Free Flu Shot Vouchers Across the Country
Reinforces commitment to supporting living healthy and smart with initiative that will provide access to flu shots for those in need
Bethlehem, PA – October 6, 2015 – FamilyWize, a community service partnership focused on improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities, today announced it is working with Walgreens to help distribute thousands of vouchers good for free flu shots to those who cannot afford the vaccine at events throughout the country.
Individuals can visit the FamilyWize website (www.FamilyWize.org) to see the list of event dates and locations. The vouchers for the free flu shots are available on a first come, first served basis at each event, and are subject to terms and conditions on the voucher.
“Every year, many people do not get the flu shot because they are unable to afford it. This is a vital program to help change that,” said Joseph Sanginiti, President and COO of FamilyWize. “This program further illustrates our ongoing dedication to working with our partners, such as Walgreens, to help individuals, families and communities live healthier lives.”
The flu can have significant health and financial impact, especially on those who are not insured or who have high deductibles. A 2012 study conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that parents spent between $300 to $4,000 in medical expenses and missed an estimated 11 to 73 hours of work when their children got the flu.
Walgreens has worked with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and many other community organizations including FamilyWize to help distribute more than $40 million worth of flu shot vouchers since the program’s inception in 2011.
The FamilyWize Prescription Savings Card will also be available at all of the flu shot events. The FamilyWize Prescription Savings Card provides an average savings of 42 percent on medication costs simply by showing the card when purchasing a prescription. The FamilyWize card is accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide and covers all FDA approved prescription medications. The card is free to all consumers – both insured and uninsured – and has no eligibility requirements. Anyone can take advantage of the savings that FamilyWize offers by printing a card from FamilyWize.org, calling 1-800-222-2818 and requesting a card to be sent to them, or downloading the free FamilyWize app.
The families and individuals who are eligible to receive a free flu shot voucher are subject to the terms and conditions of the offer.
